Update on......ME!!!

He has Awaken from Somewhere....

I have yes, risen from somewhere. Since June 9, I have had things happen but I just wasn't in the mood to type about it. I have had other things storming over my brain, interfering with my ability to do one of the things that I enjoy doing, which is to....you guess it....BLOG. For that I apologize to all of my readers for that. I am still breathing that it. So I'll just fill ya in some of the thangs that I have been doing....

-Last Friday, I went to the Taste of Chicago. I was very disappointed to hear that Lauryn Hill(who you will hear about later in this post) wasn't going to perform. Instead LL Cool J and Faith Evans were replacing her. Are you serious? When I got to where my friends were, I heard the crowd cheering. So I started booing, really really loud. My friends knew it was me. The people were shocked but I didn't give a shit. I was focused on what I was eating. It was too hot for a turkey leg so I got a funnel cake. It wasn't like the one that they have at Great America but it was okay.

-Saturday I went to 39th and Cottage Grove for the EBC Rucker Park Tournament. There were four teams playing for a chance to go to NYC to play at MSG in their tournament. The guy that says, "Oh Baby!!!" was there. He was funny. The team that won had about three or four cats that I went to high school with. I saw a few moves, some poster plays, some almost facials, but I had a good time overall. I also ran into a cat I played baseball with in high school. High school seems like a long time ago but....it was...LOL!

-Sunday I went to Washington Park because the cat I mention in the previous paragraph was still playing baseball and he had a game, but the other team forfeited. I talked to him for a while, I watch them have BP and I left. Went back to 39th and Grove for a birthday party. I shot the basketball around for a little bit, then it was time to bring out the chair and relax. Later in the day I was bum-rushed by little kids with water. I didn't take to kind to this, so I chased one down and took his water gun. If they want war, then they will have war!!! It was too many kids for me and they soaked me good as I was trying to go matrix on them and dodge water being thrown at me. It was fun, and I got a lot of exercise in with all that water.

I watched the NBA Draft and some of the BET Awards last night. I pretty much knew that Bogut was going to be drafted first and Marvin Williams second. I didn't know about all those Tar Heels being picked like that. It reminded me of Duke a few years back. The Sox and the Cubs won so that was good. I only watched the BET Awards to see one person. I didn't know that the Fugees were performing. Lauryn Hill sounded like she was been away for a while. Maybe it was good that she didn't come to the Taste. I saw Destiny's Child perform, where they pulled three cats out the crowd to cater to. Nelly, Magic Johnson, and I forgot the other guy name. I wasn't the only one to see the expression on that guy's face when Beyonce was dancing around and on him. He may have came on himself the way he was looking, but enough of that. I saw Alicia Keys as well, looking spectacular as unusual, but she wasn't the one. Toni Braxton, Mariah Carey, Faith Evans, all take a back seat to who I was waiting to see, the women who was accepting the Lifetime Achievement Award. YES!!!! Gladys Knight. I have always loved her. She still looks good to this very day. She also perform, which was good also. After seeing her, it was no more awards for me to watch.

Before this weekend, I have done other things such watch the Pistons lose Game 7, went to multiple kid birthday parties and my cousin's party(same age as me), played in some softball games, went on some interviews(yes still looking for bartending), and still work out occasionally.

The NBA Finals....Who Ya Got???

The moment that we have been waiting for is finally here...

NBA Finals on ABC....Tonight....

#2 Detroit Pistons vs.
#2 San Antonio Spurs

Spurs...

The Spurs got a suprise from the Nuggets in Game 1 of their series, and have been awoke since then. They took four straight and sent the Nuggets back to the mountains. The Sonics came in and gave the Spurs a challenge. With the series knotted at 2 apiece, the Spurs looked to their experience to take Game 6 on the road. The Spurs awaited the Suns and played the Suns style game by running them out the series with ease.

Pistons...

The defending champs came into the playoffs hot and had no problem dismantling the Sixers in five game. Next were the Pacers. We ALL know why this series was special. Down 2-1 in the series, the Pistons were reminded that they are the champs. They seem to play better when their backs are against the wall. They tailed off three straight wins to take the series and sent Reggie Miller to retirement paradise. Awaiting the champs were the Heat, who had swept their two series with the Nets and Wizards. The Pistons took Game 1 in Miami, sending the message to the Heat that they were there to play. Trailing 2-1 and 3-2 in the series the Pistons somehow managed a Game 7, where the better team won.

Breakdown...

Tony Parker vs. Chauncey Billups

Parker is too inconsistent and has shown that in the playoffs. Billups is the bigger, stronger of the two and will try to put Parker in the post whenever he can. A better shooter and defender easily Billups is...

Advantage: Pistons

Manu Ginobili vs. Richard Hamilton

Ginobili is an All-Star now and has elevated his game, whether it's in the starting lineup or coming off the bench. Ginobili can do everything and very difficult to contain for anyone. Hamilton is the best conditioned athlete in the NBA and can play extremely well with out the ball. The Spurs will probably have Bowen run around with Rip or maybe not. Ginobili is a good defender too.

Advantage: Even

Bruce Bowen vs. Teyshaun Prince

Two exceptional defenders at the small forward position. They may not be Scottie Pippen but they can defend. Both can shoot from the perimeter. The difference may be that Prince is taller and can post up Bowen. Bowen may be more on Rip than Prince, but if he deals with the taller Prince, he will still have his hands full.

Advantage: Pistons

Tim Duncan vs. Rasheed Wallace

The marquee matchup in the finals. The Big Fundamental vs. The Big Thermometer. Both players are the keys to their teams success this season. Both can post, shoot from the outside, especially Wallace. Both bring energy to the game. They seem like mirror images of each other. But Duncan is the better of the two. His attitude doesn't hurt his team, like Wallace's does. A proven All-Star, MVP, former champion, Duncan is clearly the better of the two.

Advantage: Spurs

Nazr Mohammed vs. Ben Wallace

Ben Wallace can breathe now. He no longer has a 350-pound machine leaning on him for seven games. Nazr is no Shaq, so Wallace will be more effective in this series. Nazr has played well at times, but hasn't seen anyone like the Defensive Player of the Year in Wallace. Big Ben will be able to contain Mohammed help to contain Duncan if needed.

Advantage: Pistons

Spurs' bench vs. Pistons' bench

The Spurs bench is outstanding. Horry, Barry, Udrih, Brown, Robinson can provide so much to help out the starters. The Pistons' bench not as good as last year's bench, but hasn't been sat out to dry.

Advantage: Spurs

Prediction...

Many say that the Spurs are the better team. Let's see... Duncan will face the best defensive frontcourt in the league. Parker has to contain Billups from posting him up. Bowen will have to run around with Rip. Some say the Pistons are better. Let's see... The bench is not as strong as the Spurs' bench. Will they have an answer for Duncan? One for Ginobili? Can Rasheed Wallace keep himself in the game?

Both teams have questions to be answered. At the end, you cannot ever underestimate the heart of a champion...

My Theory on Alcohol......

I was at the park yesterday on 39th and Cottage Grove enjoying the 80-something degree weather. Watching a couple of the guys play basketball while I sit back and run my mouth on the phone. A kid came up to me and the conversation went a little something like this:

Kid: Hey man!

DO1: Sup'....

Kid: What are you drinking?

DO1: A Negro Modelo kid...

Kid: What is it?

DO1: It's alcohol kid....Bad for you, good for me!

Kid: If it's bad, then why do you drink it?

Now you are probably wondering what I said to this kid next. Nothing. I thought about it for a second. Why do I drink alcohol? Wanna know what I think? I know people that don't drink and try to make it seem like that drinking is the devil. Yeah and their life is perfect, PALLEEZZZEEE!!!! Give me a break! So if you want to know why I drink alcohol, stay tuned and keep reading.

Why do I drink???

1. I drink because sometimes when I talk to people, they tend to piss me off. I used to have an anger problem. I didn't know how to control at one time. In came alcohol. Now when people piss me off, I just grab a drink. I feel so much better, and become very happy all of a sudden.

2. I drink because it's fun. I will soon be a bartender and that will be fun. People have certain things to do to have fun. I like to try different types of alcohol. From that ole' Jack Daniels to that new Absolut Apeach, alcohol comes from all over the globe. The chances are that I won't taste every alcohol there is BUT.....(you can fill in the rest)...

3. I drink alcohol because it can be the perfect partner to an unsolved mystery. I mean let's face it...What's a party without alcohol? What's a BBQ without alcohol? What's a club/lounge without alcohol? It's what we do. When you hang out, you drink! Coming home from a long day, what you do? You drink! Can you imagine on Super Bowl Sunday, watching the game sippin' on Apple Juice? I can't.

As usual, I will have people read this and not approve of this. I will have some people call me or email me or leave me a comment stating that I am an alcoholic. I will have some that say that you can have fun without drinking alcohol, which is true. These people will not make me cry. They will not hurt my feelings. Cause.....

4. I drink because.....I fuckin' feel like it. I am a grown ass man! This is my life! I do what makes me go. If you don't like it, then that's just too damn bad my friends....So when I watch the Pistons win Game 7 tonight, I will be, you guess it, drinking!
